Sanguiricept is obtained from the grass Macleaya cordata (Willd.) R.Br. and Macleaya microcarpa (Maxim.) Fedde) of the poppy family (Papaveraceae). Alkaloids of Macleaya cordata (Willd.) R.Br. and Macleaya microcarpa (Maxim.) Fedde) of the poppy family (Papaveraceae) show high antimicrobial activity and act on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast-like and mycelial fungi. The mechanism of the antimicrobial activity of the agent is based on the inhibition of bacterial nuclease, disruption of the permeability processes of cell walls, division partitions, and nucleotide structure.
